![]() JohnC_21 thanks for your links - as soon as I save my tracks I will try them and see what they find. Louis - I hadn't realised that the update process has been changed - from your post it sounds as if IE is no longer required for updates? (the only reason I was really trying to get it to work.). Thank you gentlemen for your time and your wisdom (LemOnde, I am assuming you are the one in the middle surrounded by the gorgeous hardware, but apologies if you are actually one of the LamOnde's!). ![]() ![]() I'm kinda expecting someone to say "oh, sorry, didn't anyone tell you.microsoft disabled https access for ancient IE8 in April 2014.no fix" but at this point it would just be a relief to know why it doesn't work, and that I am not totally crazy!!Īny offers of help, ideas, pure genius, all gratefully accepted. I've tried SSL cache, internet history, hosts file replacement, clean boot reload, winsock, compatibility view, browser history, add-ons, reset settings, default security settings, date and time, sfc, re-registered dll, trusted sites, restricted sites, SSL 2.0 and 3.0, and probably lots of other things.aaaargggghhh. If I manually change the https to http in the address bar it works on IE8 (issue with security? With IE8?) ![]() IE8 won't display the microsoft https sites - but Chrome on the same computer will do so (so not wifi, router etc? Not computer per se? must be an issue unique to IE8?) I have tried EVERYTHING I can find online and am starting to wonder if it is a new Microsoft policy to kill older software? If I follow the "Diagnose problems wizard"" it tells me it cannot get an http, https or FTP connection. I was concerned that Automatic Updates would not work as it relies on IE (not that they are offering support anymore.). ![]() Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage") Tried to connect to Microsoft Downloads to reinstall updates etc but without success (" I have had to do a clean install of XP and IE8 on two older laptops. ![]()
